Why Kenyans shouldn't be popping champagne at the new bank rates.

Most Kenyans were filled with joy when the honourable president of our country assented the bill that prevents banks from charging more than 4% of the amount set by the Central Bank of Kenya in terms of interest on loans.

I have my own ideas and suggestions on why people won't be smiling all the way from the bank. It is somehow complicated but I will try  and keep it simple.

In summary people were happy because they thought they could now walk into any bank, ask for a loan and get it with a really low interest rate. That finally loans would be affordable, that people could start those businesses, buy those cars and those houses without any worry about having to pay back a so-called "ridiculous" fee.

Before I bust the bubble of the fantasy above, let me explain a few things about the "ridiculous" rates. First of all I am not saying that the prices were not harsh to the pocket and that all banks had valid reasons to raise the price. I am just saying that there is a delicate process that brings out the prices.

Interests are one of the many fees that banks charge to survive. So if it is lowered then others will automatically be raised. Charges like minimum initial bank deposits , ATM withdrawal fees and charges for opening and operating some accounts. These are just few examples of things that the bank will raise to cover the costs. Banks may also have to retrench their staff.

But the main reason not to celebrate is that banks aren't forced to give loans. Unless you are a valued or rather wealthy customer no bank will be able to give you money because of the high risk. So you can celebrate all you want but getting a loan is even harder now than ever before.

I am no expert though. These are just my thoughts. Feel free to take them as you may.

Thanks for reading, to God be the glory.

Drum-rolls Please

First of all I apologize for not posting in the last couple of months. But I am back and so is the English Premier League. The league has been on for three weeks now and its already shaping up to be a big one. The Manchesters have already started showing that money can win you games, more specifically united. Critics keep crying that Ibrahimovic will not be able to keep up his form but he doesn't care. Other people who don't seem to care what critiques are saying are Hull city. In the first week they had no manager and only 13 fit players but have managed to beat Leicester and Swansea and also gave Manchester united a hard time. Middlesbrough are also doing quite well considering they just came into the league and just as the Manchesters they are showing that money does talk no matter how small your mouth is.
Middlesbrough's Alvaro Negredo.

The other so called big clubs of the premier league haven't been that convincing. Especially Arsenal. They lost their first match due to poor defense and drew at Leicester due to poor attacking. They although won at Watford but that was mostly because of the class they have in the middle of the pitch. Wenger has stated that he is looking out for the workers in the stadium so maybe Arsenal will sing up some new toilet cleaners from Spain plus buying some new mops. Leicester have a harder season now because opposing teams have started taking them seriousluy and Chelsea albeit they are winning arent very convincing except in their last match against Burnley.

Sunderland's David Moyes
Now to the teams that are giving the teams above points. The infamous manager of Sunderland David Moyes has used his excellent managerial skills in analysis and motivation to come out saying that his team is already fighting a relegation battle. I am not sure he quite knows how that works. Another team that seems to not know how things work is Southampton who keep selling their best players every season and expect to still maintain their form. Same goes to crystal palace who sold Bolasie and bought Townsend who nobody seems to want. I have faith in Stoke, Bournemouth and Watford who just need to get their act together especially Watford who have more time to think starategise now that they are out of the EFL cup.

I can go on forever but the other teams which I haven't mentioned( yes Liverpool fans that is you) will have to wait their turn. I can only do so much at a time otherwise this will turn from a blog to a book.

What a ride!

Amazing, crazy, surprising, scary, exhilarating. Those are just some of the few words that can be used to describe the Barclays premier league season of 2015/2016. From the start to the finish every week has been like a drama series. Forget game of thrones, pretty little liars ,empire or any famous show. For an English football fan there has been no greater season in the past 20 years except maybe for arsenal fans and their unbeaten season of 03/04 but it still comes second to the underdog story of the century. Leicester city has not just blown the mind of football fans but of all other sport fans who have heard their story. It has inspired thousands hat anything is possible.( sorry for being so corny but its true) .For a team that two seasons ago was not even in the first division to win it by a substantial margin is absolutely unbelievable.

Leicester's victory isn't the only thing that has contributed to the amazing season that has just unfolded but the fact that this season lacked the dominance of the big five of the premier league. Chelsea were almost unrecognizable with the way they plaid if it wasn't for the quality in the team I personally think that they would be relegated. While on the subject of Chelsea , Eden Hazard showed us albeit very late why he is the best player in the premier league and in my opinion one of the best players in the world. In just five matches he was able to win Leicester the league, save a point from tottenham, embarrass the Liverpool defense, get a man of the match and a goal of the season. That just shows how much impact he can have on a team.

Arsenal have done their usual nonsense that they are used to for the past couple of years but have been able to secure a place at second which nobody cares about, tottenham showed the value of youth and slipped in to third while city and united who have had a shaky season in their standards took fourth and fifth respectively but united still have a chance of winning the fa cup against a disappointing crystal palace.

Speaking of disappointing the team at the bottom in the name of Aston villa put on the complete opposite of what Leicester did and looked like their target was to have the worst season possible, Norwich and Newcastle did their best in their last matches with some convincing win but it was a case of too much too late (I didn't get that wrong I know what I am saying).

All these factors and ore contribute to what will most arguably be the most dramatic season of our lifetimes.

Turning tables.

The English Premier League is just becoming crazier. The big five are becoming smaller and the smaller teams don't seem to care. Manchester city is the only team with silverware and doing well in the champions league but nobody knows how due to their poor form in the league itself.
Leicester are still being stubborn and winning matches when everyone never expected them too. Kane, Vardy, and Payet are running riot while Hazard is unrecognizable, West Ham is trying to sneak in the top four, Manchesters are  and Arsenal is up to its usual antics of running around the top four getting their fans' hopes up and finally finishing fourth and third.
Claudio Ranieri

At the other end of the table. Crystal palace are trying to break the record for the quickest descent down the bpl table having two points from their last six matches. Aston Villa should already be making arrangements for the championship because I see no way out for them getting out especially with the two teams above them having brought in new experienced managers in form of Rafael Benitez and Sam Allardyce.
Rafael Benitez New Newcastle manager.

In summary. Leicester are the new Chelsea, spurs the new Manchester united and Arsenal are still same old Arsenal. Next season will be even crazier with Pep Guardiola, Conte, Benitez and the rumored Mourinho in the same league but its a little bit too early to be looking at next season while this season is still young..ish. All we have to do is sit back and enjoy.

What a league.

First of all I wish all of you a wonderful 2016 full of football happiness I don't think the league has ever been this juicy. The unpredictability of this season is unmatched by any other. The defending champions are 14th although they are showing glimmers of hope but the only team that seems to be consistent in form is west ham being the only team not to lose in their last six matches as of January 14th. Arsenal although are the only team to have gained more points than west ham in the last six matches since they have more wins. Leicester are third and are looking a little shaky as the league continues and may be starting their slide down the table as many have predicted.

Meanwhile at the bottom of the table. Aston villa are looking more lively although they are in a very tough position with only eleven points. Newcastle and Sunderland are plating with the much needed vigor that is needed for teams in such a position. Those two teams can only spell danger for the others in the bottom half if they do not pull up their socks.

Chelsea's Guss Hiddink is still unbeaten at the bridge and Chelsea is looking like ts older self. Manchester united are being pressured to perform as Van Gaal is seeming to be getting impatient with his players. The new year seems to have brought back the old ways of some players in the epl. Specifically Wayne Rooney and Diego Costa who are starting look like the players we have come to love. They have already began their 2016 goal account and don't seem like slowing down.

The FA cup is proving to be as spicy as always as the teams from the lower teams don't seem to be caring about their positions and are putting up a big fight with the top tier teams.Exter City held Liverpool to a 2-2 draw, West Brom drew with Bristol, Manchester united escaped Sheffield united through an extra time penalty and Oxford united beat Swansea 3-2 in a wonderful display.

Outside the epl the Ballon D'or was once again won by Lionel Messi for the fifth time and once again no player from the epl was in the team of the year. Maybe we will have better luck next time. Nevertheless this league is shaping out to be the one of the tightest and close ever. All we have to do is sit back and relax.

The madness continues

The English premier league will never cease to have it wonders. This time it was the champions league having a cameo in the mysterious epl realm. Manchester united was knocked down into the Europa league while Arsenal getting a surprising win over Olympiakos after Giroud scored his first Arsenal champions league hat-trick. Arsenal have made a habit of repeatedly qualifying for the champions league as they have done it 18 times in a row. Unfortunately they have never won it. They are like a student who has taken an exam eighteen times but has never passed. They always come short of it.  But may this be their year?

Manchester city and Chelsea have gone on to qualify for the round of 16 with Arsenal but Manchester city seem to have the easiest route as they have seemingly the least challenging or at least the least popularly challenging opponents out of the English trio.  Man city face Dynamo Kiev who luckily went past Porto in their group, Chelsea face PSG who are so far unbeaten in their league and Arsenal face the almighty Barcelona who won the treble last season and are looking dangerous even with recurring injuries on Neymar and having lost Messi for some time.

Watford, Leicester and Bournemouth don't seem to be wanting to calm down and go where everyone expects them to. They don't care what other people think and are just winning matches like its nobody's business. Same goes to crystal palace and west ham they just refuse to drop points. Unfortunately they have left a void which must be filled and unfortunately Norwich,Sunderland, Swansea and Aston Villa have stepped forward as worthy replacements. But to tell you the truth as a Chelsea fan I would rather Leicester win the league rather than Arsenal. At least we wear the same shade of blue.
Now to some more urgent matters. The Vardy and Mahrez show continued in the king power stadium and the guests were the unfortunate Chelsea fc. The players looked like they were being forced to play and that was clearly shown in the match when Hazard substituted himself off the pitch and Diego Costa made sleeping gestures to his fellow teammates after they conceded a goal. They were not in the game and although Remy( who I beleive should be CFC'S no.1 striker) got one goal back . It was not enough.
Jose Mourinho stated thet he felt like he was betrayed by the players and that ended up to be his famous last words as he was later dismissed by the oh so reliable Roman Abramovich. This I believe to be a big mistake in which he will come to regret when it is too late. I strongly hope for Chesea's sake that I am wrong. But maybe that is what Chelsea needed a breath of fresh air to bring a new opinion.
I hope the new manager will put Remy upfront, play Kenedy, Oscar and Willian. Ramires and Loftus behind them and maybe leave the defense as it is. I would give Djilobodji and Traore their chances at the back and see what happens. Also maybe start Pedro on the left back more often and play Hazard as the number 10 on his jersey because he's definitely not wearing it for fashions sake. I hope what he doesn't do is buy and sell like he is at a medieval grocery that would just make everything worse.
I am sad to see Jose go and I wish him the best in his future as long as he does not come to manage any epl team.
